Stock, locations and transfers

Multi-location stock in Serat: per-location quantities, auditable stock movements, and store transfers with QR pickup, delivery confirmation and printable labels.

Updated stocklocationstransfers

Stock in Serat is always a quantity of a variant at a location. There is no global number, because a global number is not something you can act on: it does not tell you whether the shirt is in the shop the customer is standing in.

Locations

A location is anywhere stock rests: a shop, a storeroom, a warehouse. Locations are what the till sells from, what transfers move between, what stocktakes are run against, and what the fulfilment queue assigns orders to.

Movements, not edits

Every change writes a stock movement: what changed, by how much, where, when, why and from which part of the system. Current stock is derived from those movements. Nothing overwrites a quantity silently.

The practical benefit shows up during a disagreement. When a count says eleven and the system says fourteen, the movement history tells you which three left, through which door, and when.

Transfers between locations

A transfer has a shape deliberately close to how the handover really happens:

  1. Create the transfer with the variants and quantities to move.

  2. Print the transfer label. It carries a QR code identifying that transfer.

  3. The sending location confirms pickup by scanning, which records the stock as in transit.

  4. The receiving location confirms delivery by scanning, which lands the stock at the destination.

Because pickup and delivery are separate confirmations, stock that is genuinely in a van is neither promised as available in the shop it left nor counted in the shop it has not reached. Discrepancies surface at the moment of receipt rather than at the end of the season.

Transfers you did not create

Where automated assignment and transfer planning are configured, fulfilment may propose a transfer when stock is in another location. Review its status and confirm both handovers rather than assuming the item has already arrived.

Reporting on stock

  • Inventory value. Stock on hand valued at cost, per location or in total.

  • Low and out of stock. What is running down, by variant, so you can act at style level.

  • Transfer completion. Whether transfers are actually being received, and how long they take.
